A Field of Tulips - Hand Art - kindergarten style...

I can't say that it bothers me to get paint on my hands! I love it, and I think the kindergarten kids had a blast too. I am so lucky to be able to come up with art projects for each grade, this one happens to be my son's kindergarten class (80+kids= 80+handprint tulips!).My son's kindergarten teacher, Mrs. S. came up with painting their hands to represent tulips. I think it was a great idea and looks even better in person.

Starting with the green field field and sky... just wait for the color...

We had a nice assembly line:  Mrs. S. (barefoot) painted the palms of their cute little hands, I held and pressed them on the canvas, the kids painted their own tulip stems and fingerprinted the tulip leaves, then they had help washing their hands...

One class down, 3 more to go! Make a silly face...

Our tulip field is complete!

Of course... Funny Faces for our tulips...
(missing 40 + kids-I have yet to post the other 40 of the 80+ kindergarten kids)

Their painting is already hanging in the hall and they will be able to see it next year as they walk to lunch!

Birds... Hand Print Art

You know, it's funny, I was talking to someone the other day (could've been myself, I don't remember), and I don't know when I started doing all of this kid art that's coming out. I guess, I just decided there will be a time when I can do my own "adult" art- but now, I'm plunging in, the time is right for my kids' involvement (I would be concentrating on my own projects and wouldn't pay attention to "anything" in the room) ... and with a few other kids added to the equation...

BIRDIES FOR MOM'S DAY!
Here is another beautiful handprint project(spotted over at the Craft Nest) for Mother's Day that my kids gave to their grandmas!

I'm loving the birds outside chirping this time of year... even my little noisy birdies in my house... that's all year!

Poppy Flowers - Hand Print Art

Mom and Grandma's Day art projects was such a busy paint day for my kid art class!
Here are the bright and colorful poppies that the kids painted by using their handprints, fingerprints, and a paint brush.
Doesn't get any easier!

Flowers without the dirty mess, watering, upkeep and dying...

Hope you all celebrated a wonderful MOTHER'S DAY!

*Reduce *Reuse *Recycle - Lid Paint Palettes

Here's one EARTH MONTH idea I've been doing for a while: using large yogurt and cottage cheese lids repurposed as painting palettes for kids. They wash up great and you can reuse them over again.

I've never really realized how many items I repurpose so I can use them in an art project or for my kids' enjoyment.

As a much younger poor art student, I figured out in a hurry that art supplies are extremely expensive. One of my solutions: I used film metal canister lids for my oil painting palettes. I could close them and my paint wouldn't dry up. It was wonderful and free!

Ideas/items are all around us.
Be creative.

Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

Painted EGG ROCKS- big & small!

Another rock painting project!
Um... I told you I liked to paint rocks ... with kids! With my mom, when we were younger (much younger), we used to paint rocks with fingernail polish. My husband commented when he spotted the painted rocks, "So we don't have to dye eggs then?" We'll see...

For our little kid art class we brightly painted EASTER EGGS...ROCKS!

Some are small and some are huge.

I'm not a huge fan of "pastel" Easter.

Super easy art project for toddlers to paint (in their highchair)!

A few simple techniques we used:

  •   First paint a clean white "rock" canvas, let dry, and use your desired paint & design express the true paint color (*to eliminate the dark rock underneath).

  • Make stripes or designs by using blue "painter's tape" (doesn't rip off the paint).
  • Paint your desired stripe color. Take off tape after paint has dried.
  • Use your finger tips dipped in paint to create polka dots!
  • To protect and shine, paint exterior with Mod Podge (for indoor display) and a polycrylic (for exterior display-brush cleans easy with soap and water).

We are going to display them outside on our porch and around our house!

SNEAK PEEK- Capture your child's drawing with glue batiking

I have so many projects "in the works" for some reason or another, that I thought I'd show one of them.

Glue batiking has been really popular in my "kid art studio." I had the kids draw with pencil on canvas material. Then I traced their drawings with clear glue. And recently they painted on top of their drawings.

I will be showing the step-by-step process in a later post. Right now they are drying and waiting to be washed so that the glue will rub away and we will see a crisp(somewhat) outline of their drawing from underneath...

You can see the shimmery glue outlines on the paintings if you look really close ...

Can't wait to see them stretched on a frame!

Painted Picture Frames- by kids

My kids really like to paint, all I have to do is find them something to paint on. Here are two frames, one is wood, the other a craft frame - both wonderful to paint on.

  • First, draw your idea/design with pencil on the frame.
  • Next, paint, and let dry.
  • Then, outline in permanent marker (if desired) to make it "pop".
  • Then apply a few layers of Mod Podge to protect it. (We applied a thick coat to our glitter hearts, so now they will never flake off!).

My son (6 yrs) always paints houses and streets, where my daughter (8 yrs when painted) always paints themes. Either way,  they make great presents for family!

Sorry about the creepy faces, I try not to post my family online!

ArtPalooza week- day 4 - Simple Batiking {tutorial} - shirt design

Instead of using the traditional batiking mediums with wax and dye, we are using acrylic paint & glue- super easy, little mess! I adapted this project from pinkandgreenmama.

Here's another fun art project that my amazing art student "K" (14 yrs) painted on a T-shirt.
Visit my Simple Batiking {tutorial}- On Canvas post for more artwork.

She likes birdies(understatement)!

Simple Batik on shirts {Tutorial}:

      Items Needed:
  • Elmer's Clear Glue
  • shirt or desired material
  • acrylic or t-shirt paint
  • paint brushes
  • pencil
  • cardboard
  • wide tape

  •  Tape the front of your shirt to a large piece of cardboard so the paint doesn't bleed through to the other side-  helps to stay in one place when you're drawing on it.
  • Draw with pencil your design and then outline with the clear glue (cotton will soak in the glue).
  • Let dry overnight.

  •  Paint on top of the glue, if you don't want to miss any areas- it will wash away later. The pencil will wash off also.

  •  Take the shirt off of the cardboard and soak with warm water in the sink for 30+ minutes. Gently rub away the glue.
